Smart Split

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 24, 2026

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains what information Smart Split ("we," "our," "the app") collects when you use the Smart Split mobile app, why we collect it, who can see it, and the choices you have. It's written to describe what the app actually does today, not a generic template — as the app changes, this page will change with it.

Smart Split is a workout-planning and tracking app. You do not need to provide any information beyond an email address, password, and username to create an account.

Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect the email address and password you provide (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase) and the username you choose. Your password is never stored or visible to us in readable form.

You can optionally log in with your username instead of your email. This works by checking your password against your account before ever revealing which email it belongs to — your email address is never exposed by this process, and it never bypasses the normal password check.

Profile information

Your username, member-since date, and profile picture make up your public Smart Split profile. Your profile picture is either a generated icon (an initial or an animal avatar) or a photo you choose to upload from your device.

Training profile

Your training goal, experience level, session length, days per week, availability, equipment, muscle-group priorities, current split, and weight-unit preference are stored on our servers so your setup carries over between devices. This information is private to your account — it is not visible to other users.

Workout history

The exercises, sets, reps, and weights you log are stored only on your device — not on our servers. When you complete or edit a workout, that workout's details are sent to our server once, briefly, so it can independently verify your workout and calculate the points it's worth; the details themselves are not saved afterward. What our server does keep permanently is the resulting point total, streak, and workout count — never the underlying sets, reps, or weights.

Points, streaks, and referrals

Your total points, current streak, and completed-workout count are calculated and stored on our servers, derived from the workout completions described above. If you refer a friend, we store who referred whom and the referrer's username at the time of signup, so referral rewards can be calculated and verified.

Friends

If you send or receive a friend request, we store that request and, if accepted, the resulting friendship.

Contacts (optional)

If you choose to connect your contacts, Smart Split reads names and phone numbers from your device's Contacts app to help you find people to invite. Your contacts are read on your device only — they are never uploaded to our servers or shared with any third party, and we never attempt to determine whether someone in your contacts already has a Smart Split account. Contacts are used solely to build an in-app invite list and to pre-fill a text message or share sheet that you choose whether to send.

Analytics and crash data

See "Analytics and Crash Reporting" below.

How We Use Information

We do not sell your information, and we do not use your workout content, contacts, or profile information for advertising.

Information Visible to Other Users

Some information is visible to other signed-in Smart Split users by design:

Your training profile, workout history, point-transaction history, friend list, and referral details are private and are not shown to other users.

A note on profile photos: if you upload a profile photo, it is stored in a way that makes its direct web address accessible to anyone who has that address — not only people signed into the Smart Split app. We recommend not uploading a photo you'd want to keep entirely private. We're evaluating tightening this in a future update.

Device Permissions

Smart Split may ask for the following device permissions. Each is optional and only requested when you use the related feature:

Analytics and Crash Reporting

We use two limited, first-party tools to understand and maintain the app:

Analytics. We record a small, fixed set of events — such as completing onboarding, starting or finishing a workout, or starting a contact invite — tied to a random identifier generated on your device, not to any advertising or device identifier. This identifier resets each time you log out. Once you're signed in, events are also linked to your account so we can understand usage patterns. Event details are limited to coarse information like a step name, an exercise name, or a count — never your workout weights/reps, passwords, contact details, or other sensitive content. This data is our own — we do not use a third-party analytics vendor, and it is never used for advertising.

Crash reporting. We use Sentry to learn about crashes and unexpected errors. When something goes wrong, we send the error type, message, and the names of the screen components involved — never your account details, contact list, or workout content. We do not send your IP address, device identifiers, or other default diagnostic context that Sentry can optionally collect, and we do not attach your identity to crash reports.

Advertising

Smart Split includes Google's mobile advertising SDK, but at this time it is configured only with Google's public test ad units — no real ads are served, no advertising identifiers are collected, and no personalized-advertising or ad-consent system is active. This section will be updated with full detail before Smart Split serves real ads to real users.

Service Providers

We use the following providers to operate Smart Split. Each processes data on our behalf and under its own privacy terms:

Data Retention

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Workout history, and most other content, live on your device and remain there until you delete the app or clear its data; they are not automatically deleted when you log out. Server-side data tied to your account is retained until you delete your account (see "Account and Data Deletion" below), at which point it is permanently removed except for the anonymized analytics that section describes.

Security

Your data is protected by database-level access rules that restrict most information to your own account by default, and by industry-standard password hashing. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we design new features with these protections in mind from the start.

Children's Privacy

Smart Split is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Our sign-up flow does not ask for or collect a date of birth or age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us using the information below and we will delete it.

Your Choices and Rights

Account and Data Deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time from inside the app: go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your profile, training data, points, streak, friends, referral history, and any uploaded profile photo from our servers. This cannot be undone, and we cannot recover a deleted account or its data.

A couple of things this does not do, so we're not overstating it:

If you'd rather not use the in-app option, or run into a problem with it, email us at support@smartsplitfitness.com and we'll delete your account for you.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Smart Split changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and for material changes we'll make a reasonable effort to let you know in the app.
